Author & Advocate

I wanted to be a lot of things when I grew up. I wanted to be a writer, a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, a police officer, and a famous singer. I went through a phase where I wanted to be a vet, I wanted to be an interior designer, and I wanted to host my own cooking show all at the same time. At one point, I also wanted to be the President of the United States, but I quickly decided that job came with a whole lot of headaches I didn’t need in my life.

Luckily for everyone, I realized pretty early on that I couldn’t sing, nor did I have any rhythm or musical talent whatsoever. So that helped me rule out becoming the next Taylor Swift, and the world is a better place because of it.

I have always had a passion has always been for literature. I love spending time absorbed in a good book. There is almost nothing I love more than getting lost in a good story, falling in love with a character, or getting her heart broken by a well-written ending.

But I learned at a young age that I also love to tell stories of my own. I was that kid filling spiral notebooks with pencil novels and creating construction paper newsletters for my family. I’ve always been passionate about getting the stories in my head down on paper.

I went to school for English with a concentration in Writing and held on to the belief that someday I would use that knowledge to publish a story of my own.

In the meantime, I became a police officer in 2012, checking off one of the jobs on my childhood bucket list.

I was a certified police officer for over a decade.  In addition to being one of only a few female police officers in the area, I became the only active female SWAT operator in the state at the time. I have advanced knowledge of police tactics and procedures. I am also trained in Crisis Intervention, Active Shooter Response, Interviewing and Interrogation, Emergency Tactical Care, and Officer Safety and Survival. I also took advanced training to teach a Women’s Self-Defense program and a Community Suicide Prevention program.

In 2021, I finally fulfilled my dream of becoming a published author when my first novel, He Loves Me Not, debuted.

Since then, I’ve published a second young adult fiction novel A Picture Worth A Thousand Words and a memoir about my time as a police officer, titled Male-Dominated: The Story of a Woman in Law Enforcement. I’ve also published a short handbook for young women called Things I Didn’t Learn In School. You can find these titles and more in the shop.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a Master of Arts degree in English. I also have a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching Writing.

In 2022, after a decade of police work, I was forced to give up my career in law enforcement after I became disabled due to illness. Coming to terms with my disability has been one of the biggest challenges of my life.

Writing has always helped me come to terms with the world around me, and I continue to rely on it now.
